The
Dam
The
dam is only rarely accessible to bank anglers in extremely low water
conditions - otherwise bank fishing from the dam is strictly prohibited.
For boat fishermen, the dam offers some respite from strong westerly
or southwesterly winds and the opportunity to fish a deep shelf.

One persistent feature off the dam for a number of
years were the "bubble lines" which were installed to prevent stratification
of the lake. These drew fish into the dam basin, particularly during
prolonged hot weather and often produced long, stable "wind lanes"
which provided great opportunities to present dry flies to moving
fish throughout the day.
Latterly, the anti-stratification "boilers"
have been placed in the old river bed thorughout the length of the
lake down as far as Orchard Bay. These still offer excellent stable
wind slicks in almost all wind directions but we haven't seen much
evidence of the fish drawing into them in extended periods of hot
weather.
