North Shore
The North Shore is a vague area that is normally taken to be the
near half-mile of bank that runs from the equivalent of Holt Bay
to the fishing lodge on the opposite bank. The key features are
(in order from the Orchard Bay end):
A set of withy bushes that are immediately to the
right of the top point on Orchard Bay (looking out over the lake
from the point). There is a deep trench in front of these bushes
that, although being difficult to access from the bank, holds good
numbers of fish at higher water levels.
A large concrete block (a remainder of WWII defences)
which marks a small, shallow spit running straight out into the
lake. This tends to hold fish at the start of the season and when
the spit becomes partially exposed by lower water levels.
An area of raised bank just up from the concrete block.
The point just to the right of this (looking out over the lake)
fishes well under higher water conditions.
The mature hedge/tree line that runs down into the
water marks its own extension into the lake where it forms a shingle
spit. This attracts and holds fish under almost all water conditions
and also seems to act as a "turning point" for a number of fish.
The area that runs from the front of the main North
Shore car park for 50-80 yards towards the Top End holds fish throughout
the year under almost all water conditions. Weed growth may become
a problem in the summer months but this stretch of water gives access
to a shelf and a good depth and range of fishing (15-18 feet at
top water level).
There is a small area at the extreme point of the
North Shore that at top water is only accessible by deep wading
or a difficult detour through the woodland towards the Island. This
point gives access to deep water at the start of the season and
provides a good spit to cover contour-following fish at lower water
levels. The right-hand side of the point (looking towards the fishing
lodge) holds fish right under the bank after strong west or southwesterly
breezes but the back-cast is restricted.

Up towards the Island, in a small "corner" there is
a funnel-shaped lawn. This area provides good fishing at almost
all water levels but can become weed-bound during the summer.
