Previous seasons - Summary

2000 season

1999 > 2000 > 2001

Alert readers out there will notice that my personal reports dried up during June 2000. The explanation's simple: a lot of work plus a long time off for illness. I can summarise the last couple of months of the season in as many sentences though:

July and August saw a return to higher water levels than we're normally used to and the fish remained around the Top End. Occasional good days were had in the shallow areas around Polish Water and by and large tactics remained fixed with fish being caught on Diawl Bachs and Epoxy Buzzers on floaters or damsels on intermediates.

September and October saw a change in fishing tactics with the fish becoming more aggressive and chasing lures pulled along behind floaters or intermediates. A favourite tactic employed by Andy Campbell was to pull large sparkler-style lures along the surface.

The abiding comment that we had on the back end of 2000 was that everywhere we expected expanses of bank, the was 7-8 feet of water which made locating the fish difficult. That, coupled with some exceptionally poor weather made for a frustrating end to the year although the quality of the fish remained good throughout.

All the indications are that a large number of fish have survived the winter, which has been wet and mild and that we can expect some fine fishing at the start of the 2001 season.
